Brief history and our ideals

In the 1990s in Taiwan, cries for educational reform soared. People were asking how to change the school system so that a child’s learning appetite could be conserved and each student’s potential could be cultivated.

CiXin Waldorf education team started putting the ideals of Waldorf education into practice in 1996 in the kindergarten and extended these ideals to a primary school in 1999. With the support of the Yilan county government, CiXin Waldorf school became the first chartered school in 2002. Nine years later, the first C10 class was created. In 2015, the charter school covered C1 to C12, and CiXin became the first 12-year comprehensive Waldorf school in Taiwan.

Rudolf Steiner once said: “We should not ask what knowledge and abilities one needs to have in order to exist in current society. Instead, the question we should raise is what is the potential in each person? What’s the direction he or she wants to move on? By doing so, we can bring up the growing generation in the way that they can give new impulses to the current society. Only so can we achieve a living social organism.” The core value of Waldorf education is “offering education in the highest quality in terms of contents, environment, and interpersonal treatments at the most appropriate timing, that is, when the children need it according to their nature.” This is a learner-centered and human-based education. Through artistic teaching, we want to lay foundations for every student in our school to fully development on physical, soul, and spiritual levels so that they can be set forth in freedom.
